NAOMI J SCHWENKE, PHD, LMFT
HELLO!
I’M NAOMI SCHWENKE, AND I’M GLAD YOU’RE HERE.
I believe our stories and our experiences deserve to be heard and understood.
Sometimes we don’t have an empathic witness for these stories and experiences and parts of us become defensive and hurt, which influences our whole health.
I began my career as a counselor in 2004 and since then I have worked in community-based mental health clinics, schools, hospitals, and private practice. In 2016 I found myself on the brink of burnout. I tried to “push through” it and when that didn’t work, I began a journey of discovery that led me to a new understanding of wellbeing and whole health.
I’ve come to understand overall wellbeing comes from paying attention to our mental, emotional, behavioral, and physical symptoms and caring for ourselves in ways that supports each of these areas.
My undergraduate degree (’98) is in Communications, and I have a graduate degree (’07) in Counseling and Psychological Services and a Post-Graduate Degree (’09) in Marital and Family Therapy from St. Mary’s University of Minnesota and Doctoral Degree (’15) in Family Studies from Loma Linda University in Loma Linda, CA. Since starting my post-doc in the Office of Physician Vitality at Loma Linda University Health and Medical School in 2021 I have been focused on research and whole health interventions for healthcare providers.
Currently, I consult with healthcare systems and organizations about the wellbeing and psychological safety of their providers and staff. I am a certified Physician Development Coach working toward my ICF PCC credential. I also work in private practice with individuals, couples and families on healing trauma, nervous system regulation, self-leadership, relational conflict, and developing awareness of whole health.
